How to find friends when you're a mom
New friendships with other moms don't just happen — especially if you've moved or you're on parental leave. It gets easier when you know where to look and how to start.
1. Go where parents gather regularly
Playgrounds, parks, play centers, baby classes or moms' fitness. A friendship rarely starts from one conversation — seeing the same people in the same place again and again helps.
2. Start from shared interests
A shared topic — hiking, sport, coffee, dogs or your kids' ages — gives a conversation an easy start and spares you the awkward silence. Interest-based groups shorten the search.
3. Make a concrete plan
Instead of "I'll text you", suggest a specific time and place: "Tomorrow at ten at the playground, coming?" A small, concrete ask is easier to say yes to than a vague promise.
4. Be open about who you're looking for
Decide whether you want a coffee friend, a family for your kids to befriend, or a crew for hikes. Clear expectations save time on both sides.
5. Use an app for the first steps
In Kamamky you filter parents by their kids' age, interests and languages, join a local group or meetup with a tap, and sort out the details in the event's group chat. The app doesn't ask for GPS — it only uses the city you enter.
6. Give it time
Not every meetup turns into a friendship, and that's fine. Try more events and meet more people — a circle usually forms gradually.
